AUS vs ENG: The opening encounter of the three-match one-day international series between Australia and England occurred earlier today (Thursday). The contest at the Adelaide Oval turned out to be a thriller, with the hosts Australia managing to achieve a dominating six-wicket triumph to get things underway. It was a remarkable victory by Australia which now puts them in the driver’s seat heading into the business end of the ODI series.

“Fantastic performance, a real team effort. Ashton Agar came in after a few days, nice to see everyone step up. We’ve got plenty of Test cricket coming up, and to see Smith play like this was really pleasing. He’s been putting in a lot of effort in the nets in the last few weeks.” said Australian skipper Pat Cummins in the post-match presentation

The renowned opening batsman David Warner remained the pick of the batters for the hosts following a remarkable inning of 86 runs, while Adam Zampa starred in the bowling department with two crucial dismissals to his name. Even though England ended up on the losing side, The prominent English middle-order batter Dawid Malan was named the player of the match, as he slammed a run-a-ball century in the first innings of the match.

Ashton Agar takes the spotlight with a flying fielding effort!

Ashton Agar’s heroic save at the boundary rope remained the highlight of the match. The episode occurred in the 45th over of the encounter when the Australian captain Pat Cummins was bowling to the centurion Dawid Malan from the Cathedral end. Agar attempted a full-fledged diving catch at the mid-wicket region following Malan’s powerful pull shot. 

The Australian all-rounder, unfortunately, could not hold on to the ball, however, he successfully threw the ball inside the rope just in time which ultimately saved five runs for the team. Other than that, Agar had a pretty substandard day in both departments. He was wicketless in the first innings, getting hammered for a whopping 62 runs, While he did not get the opportunity to bat in the second innings of the match.
