Team India’s South Africa tour ended on Sunday when the visitors lost the ODI series 3-0. The tour started on a high beating South Africa in the first test. But after that, the graph has gone down for Team India.
Almost a month is gone in 2022 and India hasn’t won a game this year. After the final game on the tour, Rahul Dravid came in the post-match press conference. In which he admits that the ODI side is not balanced at the moment.
Some key all-rounders in form of Jadeja and Hardik were not available for the tour due to injury. There are performances for individuals but as a collective unit, Team India Failed to win a game.
Hardik and Jadeja will give us more depth once they come back
Rahul Dravid said “I think if you are a little bit honest, some of the guys who help us balance the squad out and give us those all-round options at No. 6, 7, and 8 are probably not here, and available for selection,”
Ravindra Jadeja suffered a knee injury before the South Africa tour. And Hardik has not been selected as he is not completely fit enough to contribute with both bat and ball for the team. He has been dropped post-T20 World Cup last year.
“Hopefully, when they (Hardik and Jadeja) come back, it will give us a lot more depth, it allows us then to probably play in a slightly different style,” – the head coach added.
KL Rahul did a very decent job as a captain
While talking about KL Rahul’s captaincy who led the Indian side for the first time. Rahul Dravid said that he did a very decent job as a captain. Unfortunately, the results didn’t go his way as a captain can only do so much. But the players need to contribute to making one’s captaincy successful.
“I thought he did a good job. Not easy to be on the wrong side of the result. He is just starting out as captain and he will learn a large part of captaincy is the execution of skills by your players and the quality of the side you have got. We were a little bit short on the ODI side of things and I thought he did a very decent job.”
Team India is currently on a week break after that they will regroup to play 3 ODI match series and 3 T20I match series at Ahmedabad and Kolkata respectively against West Indies starting from 06th February.
