T20 World Cup 2022: Indian team’s recent defeat in an all-important encounter against South Africa has sparked multiple questions about the team’s batting lineup. India lost to Temba Bavuma-led South Africa following a poor performance by batters. Batting first, The Rohit Sharma-led batting unit scored just 133 runs, which was never going to be enough against a star-studded South Africa batting unit.
India still occupies the second position in the points tally of Group 2 and is likely to qualify for the semi-finals leg of the marquee tournament. The team is scheduled to take on Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in their remaining two encounters in the Super 12s stage. The crucial matches will be played on November 1 and November 6 respectively.
When did Dinesh Karthik last play in Australia?: Sehwag
Meanwhile, among several other prominent names, India veteran Virender Sehwag too has questioned Dinesh Karthik’s selection in the starting eleven of the Indian team. Sehwag confessed that Rishabh Pant should have been given the first preference considering his experience of playing in Australia. The former Indian world cup winning captain Kapil Dev too spoke about the same during his recent media interaction.
Dinesh Karthik has featured in all three games of the team so far in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Batting at the lower order, He has not had any significant contributions yet in the proceeding ICC event. Karthik, unfortunately, suffered a lower back injury in India’s last game and might miss out on the next few matches due to the same.
“When did Dinesh Karthik last play in Australia? This isn’t a Banglaore wicket. I said this even today that Pant should’ve been in the team instead of Hooda, Pant has the experience of playing here. He broke Gabba’s pride in his legendary knock,” said Virender Sehwag.
“I want to say that since we have Rishabh Pant, now is the time India needs him. It felt as if Dinesh Karthik would get the job done, but factoring in the wicketkeeping as well, I feel that if India has that left-hander option in the team, this team would look complete,” said Kapil Dev a couple of days back.
