The Indian squared off against Hong Kong in their second encounter of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 yesterday (August 31). The game between two top teams from Group A was a crucial one in the context of the Asian competition, especially for Hong Kong.
The Rohit Sharma-led side was forced to bat first after HKG skipper Nazakat Khan called it right at the toss. The batting-line up started slow but steady and eventually caught up with the pace of the game in order to post a huge total worth 192 runs for the loss of just two wickets.
The Hong Kong team had a poor outing with the bat as the Men In Blue successfully defended the total in a dominant fashion. They got the better of Hong Kong, registering a comprehensive victory with a clinical display in both departments. The win empowered the team to make their way into the Super 4.
Suryakumar Yadav was named the player of the match for his game-sealing knock of 68 runs while remaining unbeaten. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Arshdeep Singh contributed with one wicket each while defending the huge total.
Suryakumar Yadav comes out to support KL Rahul:
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav came out in the open to support his teammate KL Rahul in a post-match press conference after the Hong Kong game. The incident happened when a journalist tried to question out-of-form Rahul’s place in the Indian T20 team for the upcoming games.
The middle-order batter was quick to respond. He confessed that the opener was out for a few months due to injury and hence might need some time in the middle before getting back in the groove. Yadav looked confident about Rahul getting back in the form in no time.
Here’s the exchange:
“Rohit Sharma said that you guys would be experimenting in this entire Asia Cup. Kya us experiment ka hissa ye bhi hoga that you would be opening with Rohit Sharma at some point in time?” asked Journalist
“Toh aap bol rahe ho ki KL bhai ko nahi khilana chahiye? Look, he is a class player and needs some time (after the injury).” replied Suryakumar Yadav
