IND vs AUS: The final fixture of the proceeding Test series between Rohit Sharma-led India and Steven Smith-led Australia is currently occurring in Ahmedabad. The all-important encounter of the four-match series will enter its business end tomorrow (Sunday) as the play of the first two-three days concluded today (Saturday). It has been an action-packed encounter so far with both teams having an equal chance of registering a victory.
Winning the toss, and batting first, Australia posted a gigantic total of 480 in the first innings before bundling out on Day 2. With a mammoth 180-run knock, opening batter Usman Khawaja was Australia’s top-scorer with the bat. Ravi Ashwin, on the other hand, contributed with as many as 6 dismissals for India with the ball. Moreover, India is currently batting on the score of 289 for the loss of 3 wickets and appearing in a comfortable position in response to Australia’s big score.
“It feels great to score a hundred here. This is my IPL home ground and glad to get some runs here. The pitch was pretty good to bat on. They (Australia) were not attacking that much. We are (currently) three down for almost 300. We would look to get a big score on day 4. Who knows the wicket might help our bowlers on day 5.” said Indian opener Shubman Gill after scoring a century on Day 3
Rohit Sharma walks back disappointed following a soft dismissal
Meanwhile, India suffered a major blow in the form of skipper Rohit Sharma’s dismissal in the first hour of the play today. Sharma was dismissed by Australian off-spinner Matthew Kuhnemann while attempting an off-drive. It was a pretty substandard and casual shot by the Mumbaikar which landed straight into the mid-off fielder’s hands. He appeared furious while having a long walk back to the dressing room as an opportunity for a big score was missed.
Rohit Sharma is currently India’s leading run scorer in the ongoing Test series against Australia. It was a dream opportunity for Sharma to continue his remarkable run in the series as the conditions at Ahmedabad are extremely helpful for batters. As many as three batters scored centuries on the same Ahmedabad surface which might turn out to be difficult to bat on in India’s second innings.
