New Zealand locked horns with Ireland in the second one-day international of the three-match series on July 12. The highly-anticipated game took place at the Village ground of Ireland. The game was a must-win one for the hosts in order to stay alive in the series.
After being forced to bat first, Ireland batters put up a disappointing show. The team managed to get just 216 runs on the board before bundling out in the 48th over. Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell, The spin duo of Blackcaps ran through the Irish batting line-up with two wickets each.
The run-chase was a cakewalk for the visitors as they went on t achieve a comprehensive victory. They bagged the game in the 39th over itself, with 71 balls to left in the game. Skipper Tom Latham and Finn Allen contributed to the run chase with half centuries.

What made headlines the next day is a rare incident that happened in the 43rd over of the first innings. As it happened, The Irish batter namely Singh was caught behind after he edged an out swinging delivery of kiwi pacer Thickener. Skipper Tom Latham took a comfortable catch behind the wickets.
While the batter Simi Singh was on his way back to the dressing room, The umpire Aleem Dar stooped him and changed his decision to not out. Tickner dropping his towel while bowling resulted in umpires taking the harsh call which eventually robbed a crucial wicket from the visitors’ account. The skipper Latham had a long and animated chat with Aleem Dar. The umpire explained the rules o the New Zealand skipper during the brief chat.
