The Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum-led refurbished England test team marked the beginning to their new era with a dominating series win against New Zealand. England registered a clinical and dominating series victory over the Blackcaps with a margin of 3-0.
The series remained a nightmare for the Kane Williamson-led unit. They will return home with lots of negatives, and only a few positives. On the other hand, the hosts are looking like a dominating force with some really exciting players firing through.
They will fancy their chances of winning the one-off test against India, with the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Ollie Pope, and Joe Root looking in great touch. The James Anderson-led bowling unit will get a good week to get themselves fit and ready for the big encounter.
Joe Root’s gesture:
A video of Joe Root showing a great gesture for New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell is doing the rounds on social media. In the visual, The English batter was seen removing a stump from the pitch after the end of the third test match and giving it to the Kiwwe star player.
The gesture by Root was hugely praised by the fans and the netizens. It was indeed a heart-winning gesture by Joe Root for the New Zealander. The star English batter was later named the player of the series from England for incredible batting outings throughout the series.
Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell was one of the only positives for the Blackcaps. He scored 538 runs in 6 innings in this series. The right-hand batter had a steller average of 107.60, having scored a whopping three centuries and two half-centuries. It’s a no-brainer that he was named player of the series from New Zealand.
“It didn’t go our way but I’m very proud of the efforts the boys put in throughout. Me, it’s really proud to be part of this group. Any chance to play Test cricket for your country is special.” said Mitchell to conclude things.
