The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women’s team registered a dominating victory over Barbados in their third match of the Commonwealth Games 2022 yesterday (August 4). It was a perfect outing for the Women In Blue at the Edgbaston Cricket Stadium of Birmingham.
The win against Barbados marked India’s entry into the semi-finals of the marquee global event. The Harmanpreet-led unit officially qualified for the semis of the tournament. A victory in the semi-final would mean a guaranteed silver medal, while both the losing teams in the two semi-finals will face each other for the bronze medal encounter.
Regardless, A win in the final will help India achieve the gold medal. As things stand, Team India is most likely to face the team which ends up in the first position in the opposite Group ‘B’. It is indeed a perfect opportunity for the Indian team to achieve a medal.
Both the semi-final encounters will be played on 6 August with the bronze medal game and the grand finale scheduled on August 7 at the same venue. Meg Lanning-led Australian team remains the favorites to achieve the gold medal at Birmingham.

Meanwhile, The premier right-arm pacer of the Indian team namely Renuka Singh Thakur made the headlines with a stunning piece of delivery in the Barbados encounter. She managed to stun the prominent Barbados batter, Aaliyah Alleyne.
The incident happened when the right-hand batter decided not to attempt a shot, and instead left the ball. It was a big inswinging delivery by Thakur that went on to crash into the stumps. The dismissal was followed by a long celebration by the Indian team.
Renuka Thakur has been the find of the tournament in the Commonwealth games 2022, Birmingham. She has managed to scalp two 4-wicket-hauls in the three games so far in the event. Renuka is the highest wicket-taker of the event and has a whopping 9 wickets to her name on the wickets-tally list.
