The top cricket-playing nations are leaving no stone unturned in the preparation for the next big ICC assignment which is the T20 World Cup 2022. The marquee tournament is set to be played in the October-November window. Defending champions Australia is set to host the event.
Virender Sehwag excludes Virat Kohli:
Virender Sehwag, The former Indian opener has picked India’s top three for the T20 World Cup 2022. He went on to exclude the former Indian captain Virat Kohli from his top three, which made the headlines and indeed is a big surprise for the Indian fans.
Sehwag has backed Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan to feature in India’s top order in the marquee event (with no particular order). He is keen for Ishan Kishan to open the innings considering the left-right opening combination.
Sehwag believes that either Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul can play at No. 3 and admitted that it will be a good headache for the leadership group (deciding batting positions). As things stand, India is likely to go in with the tried and tested Rohit-Rahul combo.
Meanwhile, Sehwag excluding Virat Kohli remains a big talking point for the cricketing fraternity in India. The right-hand batter has been highly successful across formats and has been India’s stand-out batter for almost a decade. However, He is going through a lean patch in the last couple of years.
Kohli is India’s second-leading run-scorer in T20 internationals, having scored more than 3000 runs. He has represented the national side in 97 encounters and has an impressive average of 51.1 in the shortest first of the game.
Here’s what Virender Sehwag said:
“India has options aplenty when it comes to hard hitters in T20s. However, I would personally vouch for Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul as the top three batters for the World Cup in Australia.”
“The right-hand and left-hand combination of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, or for that matter, Ishan and KL Rahul could be quite interesting for the World T20.”
