On January 15th, Virat Kohli announced his decision to step down as the Indian captain in Test cricket. This decision was taken just a day after the three-match test series loss against South Africa. Virat Kohli announced this decision through his tweet and post on social media platforms. But now Virat Kohli refused the offer of BCCI to Captain in his 100th Test
“It’s been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance everyday to take the team in the right direction. I’ve done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Every thing has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test Captain of India, it’s now,” – Virat said
“I want to thank the BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for such a long period of time and more importantly to all the teammates who bought into the vision I had for the team from day one and never gave up in any situation,” – he added
Virat Kohli refused the offer of BCCI offer
According to the reports, Virat Kohli was offered a chance by a senior BCCI official, of getting a farewell Test match before stepping down as the skipper, next month in Bengaluru which would also be Virat Kohli’s 100th test match.
The next test series will be next month where Srilanka will travel to India for two test match series where the first test match will be played at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru which is the home of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and one of the favorite ground of Virat.
But Virat Kohli has reported having turned down the offer. As per the reports of DNA, when Virat Kohli informed the BCCI official that he has decided to step down as the skipper on a phone call, then in response to it the BCCI official offered him this offer but in reply Virat allegedly said,
“One match makes no difference. That’s not how I am.”
Further, the report stated that Virat first informed this decision to the head coach Rahul Dravid. Then the teammates and later he informed the BCCI officials.
In just five months, Virat Kohli has stepped down from the captaincy role in IPL, T20I, and Test Cricket. On the other hand, in ODI Cricket he was sacked by BCCI. From the upcoming series, Virat Kohli will be seen as a pure senior batsman in the Indian Team.
