Kusal Mendis had an ordinary day at the office with the bat on Tuesday, in Pune. A week earlier, following Dasun Shanaka’s injury, Mendis took over Sri Lanka’s captaincy and has struggled with the bat ever since. The 28-year-old contributed with a mere 39 runs in the Afghanistan clash and saw his team lose by a big margin as captain.
Here’s what Kusal Mendis said after the defeat to Afghanistan;
“We didn’t do enough with the bat. 300 or maybe 280 would have been sufficient, but not to be. Bowlers have done well in the first 10 overs and the dew has come in a little bit and then it became a little hard to bowl the spinners. He (Madushanka) has done really well, in the first couple of games as well, and I hope he will continue his form going forward.”
