T20 World Cup 2022: The star-studded team of Pakistan entered the marquee ICC tournament as one of the top title contenders, however, it has been nothing but a disappointing outing for them so far. The Babar Azam-led side lost to India and Zimbabwe in its first two encounters, getting virtually eliminated from the proceeding ICC tournament.
Having mentioned that, Pakistan still has an outside chance of making it into the approaching semi-finals. The top Asian side’s qualification depends on the results of other teams in the group. Their next match is scheduled against South Africa on November 3 at the renowned Sydney Cricket Ground. Regardless of a mention, it will be a must-win game for Pakistan.
As a captain, it’s easy to be selfish: Gautam Gambhir on Babar Azam
Meanwhile, former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir has slammed Pakistan captain Babar Azam for being ‘selfish’ about his batting position. Gambhir wants Babar to demote himself in the middle order and let Fakhar Zaman open for the team in the remainder of the tournament. Pakistan veteran Wasim Akram too confessed the same a couple of days back on the air.
Babar Azam is considered to be one of the best in the business in modern-day cricket across all three formats. However, His performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup has not been up to the mark. Heading into the business end of the tournament, He is yet to register a double-digit score. The opener will be desperate to put up a performance for his team in the do-or-die situation.
“In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself; if nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order,” said Gautam Gambhir while commentating in the Pakistan-Netherlands match
“This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish. It is easy for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team.” Gambhir further added.
