Indian cricket has been short on activity in the last few days since the recently concluded World Test Championship 2023 Final. Rohit Sharma-led Indian team faced a humiliating 209-run defeat in the WTC final against Australia, which occurred at The Oval earlier this month. Loss in the all-important WTC finale has triggered notable scrutiny on the Indian team as their decade-long holdup for an ICC title continued.
India will now be touring West Indies for a Test and T20 International series next month, scheduled to get underway on July 12. Following the disappointment at The Oval, it will be India’s next substantial assignment. The tour comprises of a two-match red ball series, followed by a five-match T20I series. Moreover, India’s lineup for the marquee tour is expected to be announced by next week.
Sachin Tendulkar is not your favorite?: Yuvraj Singh to Suresh Raina
Meanwhile, veteran batter Suresh Raina revealed an unheard comical episode, which occurred back in 2005, during his speech after receiving the India cap. In a recent chat with Hindustan Times, Raina disclosed how his teammate Yuvraj Singh pulled his leg during the exact speech while he was praising Rahul Dravid.
“I got my India cap in 2005 from Rahul Bhai. I had to give a speech in front of Sachin Paaji, Viru Paa, Dada, VVS Laxman, Zaheer Bhai, Ashu Bhai, Anil Bhai, Yuvi Paa, Bhajju Paa. So, I started the usual spiel but was stopped midway and asked to name my favorite player,” said Suresh Raina
“I said I idolize Rahul sir a lot so Yuvi got on to me immediately and pulled my leg saying ‘The world’s best batsman and God of Cricket is sitting here, how is he not your favorite?’ I clarified that Sachin Paaji was also one of the favorites. It was a very friendly banter which broke the ice for me,” Raina further added
Suresh Raina represented the national side in over 300 International fixtures before announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket. Being a sublime middle-order batter, Raina produced a whopping 5615 runs in his 226 ODI appearances, which was his preferred format. Famously, The Southpaw was part of India’s World Cup-winning team in 2011.
