The second-string Indian team registered a comprehensive victory in the last encounter of the ODI series against the Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies. The Shikhar Dhawan-led team put up a dominant show in both departments. Indian opener Shubman Gill was named the player of the match for a brilliant knock of 90 while remaining unbeaten.
It was a disappointing outing for the Men In Maroon as they suffered a three-nill whitewash in their own backyard. The series loss marked their first clean-sweep defeat against India, in at-home conditions. On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan helped the young Indian team to achieve the goal in absence of a few senior players including captain Rohit Sharma.
The visitors will now eye onto the five-match T20I series, which begins tomorrow (July 29). All the encounters in the series will be played at 8 PM IST. The series will mark the comeback of some marquee Indian players who missed out on the ODI series as part of the workload management policy.
Axar Patel receives a piece of advice:
What caught everyone’s eye during the second innings of the last game is Indian wicket-keeper Sanju Samson’s advice for Indian left-arm spinner Axar Patel. The incident was caught on the stump mic and was noticed by thousands of fans.
The Kerala-born cricketer advised the off-spinner to bowl at the stumps in Hindi. Surprisingly, His advice almost resulted in a wicket as the right-hand batter namely Shai Hope edged it to the slips. However, The ball did not carry to Shikhar Dhawan, who was standing at the slips.
“Chal Bapu abhi gilli pe wapas aa jaa (Come on Axar, now get back to bowling at the stumps)” said Sanu Samson.
Sanju Samson was making his comeback to the Indian team through the ongoing West Indies series. He played crucial knocks in both the initial matches of the series, which ultimately helped the team win the encounters. Unfortunately, The BCCI selectors have officially confirmed that he will not be part of the upcoming highly-anticipated five-match T20I series.
