Shubman Gill has to wait for his opportunities: Sourav Ganguly
Meanwhile, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has opened up on KL Rahul’s recent criticism in his recent interaction with PTI. Ganguly confessed that batters are bound to be criticized if they fail to score runs in home conditions. However, he also added that the team management will continue to give Rahul opportunities. Moreover, Ganguly appears assured that Shubman Gill will get his chances sooner than later.
“When you don’t score runs in India, obviously you will get flak. KL Rahul hasn’t been the only one. There have been players in the past also. There’s so much focus and attention with a lot of pressure on players. The team management thinks he is an important player for the team. At the end of the day, what the coach and captain think is important.” said Sourav Ganguly
“Shubman Gill will also get a lot of opportunities when his time comes. I think the selectors, the captain and the coach think of him and rate him very highly. That’s why he is playing ODIs and T20Is, and he has performed as well. But at the present moment, perhaps the message from team management is that he has to wait,” Ganguly further added via PTI
KL Rahul is going through a lean patch across formats in international Cricket. Rahul has failed to contribute notably in the last few months, despite being given a lot of chances. The Karnataka batter was further recently demoted from the vice-captain’s position.
