Rishabh Pant should be worried that someone is coming for his spot: Dale Steyn
The former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has warned Rishabh Pant about his place in the Indian team. Steyn confessed that emerging Indian wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan might give him stiff competition going forward. The 39-year-old heavily praised Kishan following a match-winning knock in the penultimate ODI against South Africa.
Batting in the middle order, Ishan Kishan played a quickfire knock of 93 runs off just 84 deliveries, while chasing a huge total of 279. The match-winning innings included as many as seven maximums and five boundaries. Kishan is now expected to make a comeback in the main Indian team, after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.
“I actually played with him (Ishan Kishan) a bit way back in the IPL. He seemed like a baby. We nicknamed him Justin Bieber because he was like this absolute rockstar. I’ve watched him go and get better. For a short and small man, he packs an incredible punch.” said Dale Steyn.
“These sixes odd Nortje aren’t small. They’re pure timing and muscle. And just the ability to recognize when to take on the bowler… he is a great player and guy in that Indian team… Rishabh Pant should be worried that someone is coming for his spot.” he added.
