Apparently the English fast bowler Stuart Broad will miss the second test in the 5 match test series against India. During a warm-up in the Lord’s stadium, he tweaked his right calf on Tuesday. Apart from him, Indian fast bowler, Shardul Thakur is also expected to miss the second test due to his hamstring injury.
ECB gave a statement regarding this matter saying “England seamer Stuart Broad has tweaked his right calf in today’s warm-up at Lord’s. He was unable to train this afternoon with the rest of the England squad. Broad will have a scan tomorrow to determine the extent of his injury.” According to the reports Stuart Broad twisted his “right ankle” after he slipped “while undertaking a light warm-up jog.” Broad also continued to report an apparent injury in the Indian team as well as the Indian fast bowler Shardul Thakur ‘struggling with the hamstring problem’.
England is already short of some key players like Jofra Archer and all-rounder Ben Stokes. Archer is out due to his elbow injury and soon he will have surgery also. While Ben Stokes has taken an indefinite break to focus on his mental health.
If Stuart Broad misses out on the second test, England could play with Mark Wood in his place. Thakur played his first test and if he is unable to make it to playing XI, the veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin could be included in the team. The first match ended in a draw as the final day was washed away by the rain. The second test will start on Thursday (August 12).
