The highly anticipated five-match T20I series between KL Rahul-led India and Temba Bavuma-led South Africa will begin with a series opener scheduled tomorrow (June 9) at the Arun Jaitley stadium. The series will be the first one without the bi-bubble in place after a long time.
The series will mark the absence of some marquee Indian players including the skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Burmah, and Mohammed Shami as part of the workload management policy.
The KL Rahul-led Indian team will fancy their chances to register a series win even in the absence of the senior members. The head coach Rahul Dravid looked confident about the same while attending a press conference yesterday (June 7).
Sanjay Manjrekar comes up with a suggestion:
Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar, The former Indian cricketer and analyst has suggested the Indian team management back right-arm pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar as a front-line bowler for the T20I series during an interaction with Sports18.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar impressed everyone with his bowling in death overs in the recently concluded season of the IPL. He turned out to be a highly reliable bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad, bowling in multiple phases of the game.
“There are lots of candidates. Bhuvneshwar was very good, he has shown that he is a pretty reliable death bowler, India needs somebody in the death. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is likely to play, if you have got him in the squad, might as well play him but there are other exciting options as well.” said Manjrekar.
“Avesh Khan is another good candidate, there is Harshal Patel, and there is Arshdeep Singh. So there is going to be a real clamor for those spots. India will go for three genuine seam bowlers with Hardik Pandya as their fourth option. It’s like pick anyone and they are still going to be quality.” he added.
As things stand, The KL Rahul-led management is set to go in with Harshal Patel and Bhuneshwar Kumar as their primary pacers for the first T20I, with having an extra pace option in Hardik Pandya.
