Ravindra Jadeja, The marquee all-rounder has been one of the most prominent members of the Indian team in the last few years. The left-hander is considered to be an elite cricketer and has significantly contributed in all three departments for the national side. He is a certainty across all formats for the Indian team.
The 33-year-old entered the 15th season of the Indian Premier League as the captain of Chennai Super Kings. However, he had to step down from the post after MS Dhoni was reappointed as the skipper of the side. He remained unavailable for the Chennai-based team after suffering an injury.
The all-rounder spent most of his time in the last couple of months in the National Cricket Academy for the post-injury recovery process. He is now all set to make his comeback to the Indian team through the upcoming England tour. He is part of the ongoing practice match against Leicestershire.
Sanjay Manjrekar rules out Ravindra Jadeja:
Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar has made headlines after excluding the marquee all-rounder from his squad for the T20 World Cup. He has backed Dinesh Karthik to replace Jadeja in the 15-member squad.
The Mumbaikar seems impressed with Karthik’s consistency and believes that it is going to be tough for the left-hander to break into the Indian squad considering the form of the wicket-keeper. He admitted that it will be a good headache for the Indian selectors ahead of the crucial tournament.
Here’s what Sanjay Manjrekar said:
“Clearly, Dinesh Karthik has shown that he can be a number 6 or 7 as a pure batter. The impact that he is making is phenomenal and we saw that in T20Is against South Africa and also in the IPL. So, it’s not really going to be easy for Jadeja to come in and take his place and India might settle in with somebody like Axar Patel.”
“The side now has Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik batting down the order. Rishabh Pant is also there so it’s not going to be easy for him. But knowing the kind of player Jadeja is, he will be making sure that the headache doesn’t get less for the selectors.”
