Pat Cummins-led Australia and Ben Stokes-led England are currently battling it out in an all-popular historic test series called ‘The Ashes’. The five-match red ball series between arch-rivals England and Australia is being played in the June-July window. The 2023 edition of Ashes kicked off on the 16th of June with the series opener currently occurring at Birmingham’s Edgbaston cricket ground.
The opening three days of the fixture remained action-packed as things are now heading into the business end. The penultimate day’s play is currently underway in Birmingham with hosts England having a substantial 162-run lead in the third innings. As things stand, both England and Australia have appeared clinical and they would equally fancy their chances of coming out victorious in the end.
Pat Cummins Stuns Ollie Pope with a Yorker
Meanwhile, skipper Pat Cummins commenced Australia’s proceedings on the 4th morning of the Edgbaston test with the dismissal of Ollie Pope. Cummins delivered an unplayable yorker – swinging back in – which crashed straight into the stumps. Batting on the score of 14, well-set Pope had no answer whatsoever to the exceptional delivery from Cummins. It was a much-needed breakthrough for Australia as the Root-Pope stand could have turned out to be dangerous.
“It won’t be the Ashes if Pat Cummins doesn’t produce a delivery that’ll be replayed incessantly till the next Ashes,” wrote a Twitter user while reacting to Ollie Pope’s dismissal
Another fan tweeted “Skipper Pat Cummins bowls a magical Yorker to send Ollie Pope back!! Australia clawing their way back into the first match,”

It was only the second dismissal of the ongoing Edgbaston test for Pat Cummins – who is leading Australia. Cummins went wicketless in the first innings of the match, however, now appears back in rhythm. The elite fast bowler struck early with the dismissal of English opener Ben Duckett and got the better of Ollie Pope later on.
