T20 World Cup 2022: Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh is squaring off against Babar Azam-led Pakistan in the penultimate encounter of the Super 12 leg. The high-octane game is highly decisive for both the Asian sides as the winner of this match will directly qualify for the approaching semi-finals. The renowned Adelaide Oval which is located in the heart of Adelaide city is assigned to be the host for the Asian derby.
“We will bat first. Looks like a dry wicket. Put the runs on the board and defend it. We know the importance of the game (virtual quarter-final). We will have to play well against the quality team of Pakistan. We are all calm even after the defeat in the last game and entering with three changes.” said Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan at the toss.
Winning the toss, and batting first, Bangladesh managed to score just 127 runs on the loss of eight wickets. Opening batsman Najmul Shanto remained as the pick of the batters for Bangladesh but other than that It was pretty much a flop show from Shakib Al Hasan and co. with the bat in relatively challenging conditions of Adelaide Oval.
PAK vs BAN: Umpire’s Controversial Decision
Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan’s dismissal during the first innings sparked a big controversy. The episode occured on the penultimate delivery of the 11th over when the Bangladesh skipper was trapped in front of the stumps by Shaddab Khan. The umpire took some time, eventually raising his finger, however, Shakib was quick to go for a referral and looked pretty confident while doing the same.
The third umpire surprisingly stuck with the on-field umpire’s decision following checking the replays multiple times. The decision astounded Shakib and the majority of fans as a clear spike in the ultra edge was seen when the ball was passing the bat. The social media has now erupted with claims calling the decision ‘unfair’ and the third umpire ‘a cheater’.

Furious Shakib Al Hasan had a long walk back to the dressing room after getting dismissed without opening his account on a golden duck and it was certainly the turning point of the first innings as Bangladesh did not recover from that blow.
