The Indian team is gearing up ahead of the upcoming crucial test against England. The highly-anticipated starting on July 1 will decide the scoreline of the series. India’s victory in the match will mean a historic series win for them, while England’s win will level the series by 2-2.
The Indian team has reached Birmingham a couple of days ago, ahead of the much-awaited clash. The 18-member squad has practice sessions lined up for today and tomorrow (June 29, 30) at the Headingley cricket ground itself.
Coach Rahul Dravid is expected to attend a press conference today (June 29), answering the queries of the media. While The fans are awaiting an update on Rohit Sharma’s availability. The skipper tested positive for Covid-19, a few days back. He is in self-isolation and is indeed doubtful about the high-voltage encounter on July 1.
Harbhajan Singh wants this player to Captain the Indian team:
Meanwhile, The former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has backed senior Indian fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah to lead the Indian team, if the original skipper Rohit Sharma fails to recover before the start of the match. It was a surprising pick by the veteran, considering that the right-arm pacer has no past experience in leading the team.
The veteran spinner confessed it through a tweet from his official handle while answering a hypothetical question of ICC. The international cricket body had asked about India’s probable captaincy choice in case the skipper remains unavailable for the test. Singh was quick to reply.
“Who could take charge of India should Rohit Sharma miss the all-important Test against England?” asked ICC in one of their Tweets.
“Jasprit Bumrah” replied Harbhajan Singh.
The fans of Virat Kohli were not happy with Harbhajan Singh’s reply as they were expecting the off-spinner to suggest the former skipper’s name. As things stand, It is understood that Jasprit Bumrah is India’s first choice captaincy choice if the Mumbaikar remains unavailable for the test. The marquee Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant will be his deputy for the game
