Delhi Capitals is not interested in retaining Shreyas Iyer
Interestingly, according to reports Delhi Capitals is not interested in retaining Shreyas Iyer. Iyer was picked in 2015 by Delhi and till now he has been an integral part of the DC squad. He led the side to a qualifier in 2019, took the side to their first-ever appearance in the Finals of IPL history in 2020.
Due to injury, Rishabh Pant was made the new Captain and the management has decided to stick with Pant over Iyer. Delhi has retained Rishabh Pant, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw, and Axar Patel.
If the reports are true, Iyer could be in a mega auction where he will be on the radar of many teams. Shreyas is a proper batter as well as a good leader. His recent test century on debut is the highlight of the week.
Mumbai Indians want local boy Iyer on their side
According to a story in the Telegraph, the Mumbai Indians are quite interested in getting Iyer on the side. Mumbai would like to get the local boy Shreyas in their side in the middle order and later can be groomed as captain under Rohit Sharma. The five-time champion also has some good retained players in form of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kieron Pollard.
But looking at the inputs which Shreyas bring with him in the side he could also be picked before the auction by the two new teams Ahmedabad and Lucknow. As the two new teams will be given an option of picking 3 players from the list of non-retained players. Therefore if any new franchise picks Shreyas Iyer before the auction then we will not see Iyer in the auction.
