Ravindra Jadeja will lead the Chennai Super Kings
Ravindra Jadeja has been announced as the New Captain. And MS Dhoni will continue as a Wicketkeeper Batsman in the team.
“MS was thinking about it. He felt it is the right time to hand over the captaincy to Jaddu [Jadeja]. He feels Jaddu is also in the prime form of his career and it is the ideal time for him to lead CSK. What will be good for the franchise must be [in the] back of his mind,” Viswanathan said.
“It is similar to when he handed Virat the captaincy after having groomed him for a few years at international level. Similarly, he wanted the transition to be smooth.”
“Jaddu has the potential to do well for the franchise. [He is a] good all-rounder cricketer, playing his best, he can get the team around. And MS’ guidance will always be there. This will be a good induction program,” CSK CEO added.
Jadeja has been a part of the Chennai franchise since 2012. And will now be the third player to lead Chennai Super Kings after the likes of MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina.
MS Dhoni captained Chennai Super Kings in 213 matches. In which 130 wins, 81 losses, and, six titles (four at the IPL and two at the CLT20).
Ravindra Jadeja hasn’t led a team at the senior level; he was the captain of an India Under-19 team in 2007. Chennai Super Kings will kick-off their IPL 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders on 26th March.
