IND vs NZ: Rohit Sharma-led Indian Team is in the headlines following a victory in the first match of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. It was a close triumph for the hosts India in the series opener at Hyderabad, ultimately helping them take a crucial one-zero lead in the high-octane series. Young opening batsman Shubman Gill, who starred for the home side with a mammoth double century was named the player of the match.
“To be honest, the way he (Bracewell) was batting and the way it came on to the bat nicely, it was clean ball-striking. We knew that if we bowled well, we would be okay unless we really slipped up with the ball. Unfortunately, that’s what happened. I did say at the toss that I’d like to see us challenge ourselves, not quite the situation I expected but that’s how it is.” said India captain Rohit Sharma after the Hyderabad ODI win
Despite the defeat, New Zealand would be high on morale as the team showed a great fight, taking things down to the last over. The Caravan will now move to Raipur for the penultimate fixture of the series, which is scheduled to occur on Saturday (January 21). It will be a genuine opportunity for the Men In Blue to bag another series win, while a strong fightback from the Tom Latham-led Blackcaps is highly expected.
Mohammad Siraj asks the Hyderabad crowd to perform ‘India’ chants!
Meanwhile, a video of India pacer Mohammad Siraj’s brief exchange with the spectators at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium of Hyderabad is doing rounds on social media. In the video, crowd members could be heard chanting ‘RCB-RCB’ while Siraj was fielding near the boundary. The fast bowler was quick to signal the India logo on his jersey, indicating to do ‘India’ chants. The episode concluded with a thumbs-up hand gesture from Siraj before he changed his fielding position.
Mohammad Siraj has been India’s pick of the bowlers in the last few One-Day International fixtures. India’s stand-in bowling spearhead starred for India in the Hyderabad ODI, in front of the home crowd, registering his second consecutive 4-wicket haul. The 28-year-old has made a significant impact with the ball in ODI Cricket and can well lead the national side’s fast bowling unit in the approaching ODI World Cup 2023 in October.
