Rohit Sharma’s unavailability
The second half of the IPL has started and the fans were waiting for Rohit VS Dhoni, but Kieron Pollard stepped in as stand-in Captain for Mumbai Indians.
When commentator Kevin Pietersen (KP) asked Mahela Jayawardene during the 11th over of the match about Rohit Sharma’s unavailability the coach said that he was ready to play but just as a precautionary measure he was rested. “Rohit had something going in the last Test (Oval), so we thought a couple of days of extra precaution,” he said.
When Rohit was asked about his injury in the post-match presentation of the 4th test he replied “The message from the physio is ‘assess every minute, don’t look too far ahead’,” Rohit said after the Oval Test.

Rohit’s unavailability is a big blow for Mumbai as he is just not the Captain of the side but also the leading run-scorer for them in this year’s IPL and the form which he was carrying from the England tour. Mumbai will not just miss his services as a captain but also as a batsman in the El Clasico of the season.
Another big blow for Mumbai is that Hardik is also not available. Anmol Preet made his debut in the side as he replaced Rohit. Hopefully, the skipper and Hardik recover in time.
Rohit’s record as a captain
Matches -123, Matches Won – 74, Matches Lost – 47
Pollard’s record as a captain
Matches -5, Matches Won – 4, Matches Lost – 1
Mumbai will play their next match against Kolkata on 23rd September in Abu Dhabi.
