Latest Cricket News: The highly anticipated Pakistan vs South Africa fixture in the 2023 Cricket World Cup transpired in Chennai yesterday. The marquee World Cup clash between two elite sides turned out to be a thriller, with South Africa walking out with a marginal 1-wicket victory. In challenging Chennai conditions, the Proteas chased down 271 runs in a rollercoaster chase, on the face of a quality Pakistan bowling unit.
Tabraiz Shamsi starred for South Africa in bowling with a 4-wicket haul before adding up a decisive 4 runs in the chase as the team’s last batter. Shaheen Afridi, on the other hand, remained Pakistan’s top performer with 3 big scalps, which had momentarily forced the Men In Green into a winning position amid their run defense.
Latest Cricket News: ‘It Can Also Happen To India’ Harbhajan Exposes The Umpire’s Call Rule
Meanwhile, veteran India spin bowler Harbhajan Singh has pointed out the flaws in Cricket rules after an umpire’s call snatched a victory from Pakistan in Chennai. During the Pakistan-Proteas clash, in the 47th over of the run chase, Haris Rauf had trapped Tabraiz Shamsi in straight front of the stumps, however, the on-field umpire adjudged it as not out.
Pakistan took a referral (DRS) and the ball tracking technology (hawk-eye) confirmed that the ball was marginally clipping the leg stump. As per the DRS rules, at least a 50% portion of the ball is required to finish in the line with the stumps for the third umpire to overturn the on-field umpire’s decision. As a result, Shamsi, South Africa’s 11th batter, survived – all thanks to the much-debated umpire’s call rule.
Speaking about the DRS episode, Here’s what Harbhajan Singh said in his latest YouTube video:
“It can also happen to India. Imagine if India are in the final and Jasprit Bumrah was bowling. India need one wicket to win, while the opposition needs two runs. The ball hits the pad and the batters run two.”
“The on-field umpire has not given it out, but India take a review, and it shows that the ball is clipping the stumps, but it is the umpire’s call. It happened to Pakistan here, but it can also happen to India or Australia as well.”
