Latest Cricket News: Jay Shah Is Running & Ruining Sri Lanka Cricket – Arjuna Ranatunga
Arjuna Ranatunga, Sri Lanka’s World Cup-winning captain, has lashed out at Jay Shah in his recent media interaction. Jay Shah is the secretary of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and Ranatunga has accused him of having a major interference in the Sri Lanka board. Ranatunga stated that Shah is ‘ruining’ the Island country’s board before calling for immediate investigation.
Here’s what Arjuna Ranatunga said about Jay Shah in an interaction with Daily Mirror:
“Because of the connection between SLC officials and Jay Shah, they are under the impression that they can trample and control SLC. Jay Shah is running the Sri Lanka Cricket. SLC is being ruined because of pressure from Jay Shah. One man in India is ruining Sri Lankan cricket. He is only powerful because of his father, who is India’s home Minister.”
“We should investigate how we ended up here and expose everyone responsible for leading us here. If there’s a system that allows someone to betray the entire country for self-protection, the President should take tough decisions by conducting proper investigations. This is the best time to clean this up.”
What next for Sri Lanka Cricket?
In the long run, ICC’s decision of suspend is expected to do more good than bad to the Sri Lanka board. The move was made by the ICC expecting a drastic cleanup within the board. The International Cricket Council had suspended the boards of South Africa and Zimbabwe formally for a notably limited time recently. However, until the suspension isn’t lifted up, the Sri Lankan team will be non-eligible to participate in ICC competitions.
