KL Rahul is the stand-in captain in absence of Rohit Sharma, who was ruled out of the South Africa tour due to injury. KL Rahul attended the pre-series conference in which a reporter tried to provoke KL Rahul’s anger by reminding him of his poor captaincy record in the IPL. And as well as in the second test, where India lost.
In reply, KL Rahul gave a cool and calm cheeky response to him
Talking about your captaincy, your IPL record is not the greatest and the first time you lead India in Test, lost in Joburg, what do you think about that?” the journalist asked KL Rahul.
“Look, thanks for the stats, gives me a lot of confidence,” Rahul replied.

I will try my best to carry Team India and Indian cricket forward to the best of my abilities,”- KL Rahul
As Virat Kohli has stepped down from the leadership role in the longest format of the game. Team India needs a new Captain. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are the names who are ahead in the race to become the next red-ball skipper of the national side.
“I had not given it a thought till the names came out, till the articles or news have been doing the rounds. Obviously, I had the opportunity to lead the Test side in Johannesburg and it was something special. The result did not go our way but it was a great learning experience, which I will always be proud of,” – KL said
“To lead the country is a dream come true for any player. And something special that he will cherish for a long time. I am no different. Yes, it would be a huge responsibility if given to me (being the Test captain) and it is something that will be exciting. However, I am not really looking for anything at this time but if it happens to come, I will try my best to carry Team India and Indian cricket forward to the best of my abilities,” he added.
KL Rahul didn’t have a great start as a captain in both Captaincy as well as in batting in the ODI series
KL Rahul managed to score just 12 runs while opening the innings. For India, Shikhar Dhawan was the top scorer with 79 runs. Virat Kohli and Shardul Thakur also scored fifty each but it was not enough to chase 297 in 50 overs. The second ODI will be played on 21st January in Paarl.
