While batting first Mumbai Indians scored a par total of 161. After struggling at the initial phase of the innings, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Kieron pollard helped MI get to a good total; They scored 52, 38* and 22* respectively.
However, Kolkata Knight Riders registered a comprehensive win as Pat Cummins played an unbelievable inning of 56 off just 16 deliveries, He was named as the play of the match. Cummins managed to scalp 2 wickets in the first innings.
The Australian scored 35 runs in the last over bowled by Daniel Sams. Venkatesh Iyer played a crucial inning for the Kolkata-based franchise. He scored an unbeaten half-century off 41 deliveries.

After the game, The skipper of Mumbai Indians looked frustrated as the team faced their third consecutive defeat of the season. MI lost against DC, RR, and now KKR. It has been a really cold start from the 5-time-champions.
After the game, Rohit Sharma was seen giving a post-match reaction. During the initial phase of the interaction, Sharma was unable to hear what the question was as the voice of Danny Morrison (Commentator) was breaking.
The skipper was heard telling the technical team to turn off the volume in a rather angry tone. He said, “Aavaj badhao yaar uska thoda” (Turn up his volume a bit).

Here’s the statement of Rohit Sharma after the match :
“Never expected him to come and play like that [on Cummins]. Lots of credit. The pitch got better and better to bat as the game went on. It was holding up initially. Overall it was a good pitch. With the bat, we did not start well, in the last 4-5 overs to get 70+ was a great effort from the batting unit. We did not bowl according to the plan.
We had the game till the 15th over, but then Cummins was brilliant. Whenever you have runs on the board, we always have the upper hand. We had them 5-down, it was just a matter of the wicket of Venky or Pat, they had Sunil who could smash them. This will be hard to digest, the way it turned out in the last few overs.
We have a lot of hard work ahead of us. I don’t want to be in this position all the time [frustrated smile on being pointed out that MI has been in this position before at the start of an IPL season].”
