IPL 2022 is going to be bigger and better. With the addition of two new teams, the tournament will be a 10 team tournament. The existing 8 teams have retained a maximum of four players and the rest all will go under the hammer in the mega auction which is scheduled to take place next month in February. Lucknow and Ahmedabad are the two new teams. The names of the team are not yet out. With the addition of both these teams, the tournament has 10 franchises i.e. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad.
A total of 27 players has been combined retained by the existing eight franchises. Rest all players will go in the non-retain list. The two new teams can pick a maximum of three players (2 Indians + 1 overseas) from the list of non-retain players. After this step rest, all the players will go to a mega auction.
Time, Date, and Venue IPL Mega Auction 2022
According to the latest reports, the IPL 2022 mega auction is going to take place on 12 and 13 of February 2022 and the venue will be Bengaluru.
Earlier it was expected to take place in the first or second week of January but due to some issue with the Ahmedabad team, the process got delayed.
Now as the issue with the Ahmedabad franchise is solved The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially given 31st January as the deadline for both the new teams to pick a maximum of three players.
• About Lucknow Franchise
The Lucknow franchise is owned by Rajiv Goenka’s RPSG Group. They have paid a bidding amount of Rs. 7090 crores for the Lucknow team. Earlier they owned the Rising Pune Supergiants team in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
According to reports, the Lucknow Franchise is in talks with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer for the captainship role. The team has officially announced Andy Flower as the head coach, Gautam Gambhir as a mentor, and Vijay Dahiya as assistant Coach.
• Ahmedabad Franchise
Ahmedabad franchise is owned by CVC Capitals. It is a British equity firm, which also has an investment in sports like formula 1 racing, football, and rugby. They paid a bidding amount of Rs. 5,625 crore.
There was a concern over the ownership of the Ahmedabad IPL team because of the CVC Capitals’ link up with a few betting firms. Now The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially given a clean chit to the CVC Capital, the owners of the Ahmedabad IPL team.
According to reports the franchise has selected Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, and Rashid Khan as their three picks.
