The defending champions were successful in getting most of their players back in the mega event as their leadership group believes in backing players. Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis are couples of examples.

The Chennai-based franchise spent a massive 14 crore to get fast-bowler Deepak Chahar back in the team. Deepak Chahar has played for Chennai in three seasons – 2019, 2020, 2021. Now the 29-year-old will be representing the Chennai-based franchise once again.

The men-in-yellow failed to make Faf Du Plessis and Shardul Thakur part of their squad. Surprisingly, they didn’t bid for Suresh Raina who has been part of their setup for a while. Suresh Raina has been a stalwart. Unfortunately, The left-hander was unsold and will not feature in the upcoming edition of IPL.
