The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is officially set to start on March 26. BCCI officially announced the schedule a few days back. Total 74 league matches to be played in the season. Taking place at four venues in Maharashtra.
The first match of the season will witness a thrilling contest between the IPL 2021 finalists Kolkata Knight Rider and Chennai Super Kings. The teams will be led by MS Dhoni and Shreyas Iyer. The match will be played at Wankhede stadium. The final of the season is set to take place at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on May 29.
“The IPL 2022 will kick off on March 26, the full schedule will come soon. We will also have crowds but as per the policy of the Maharashtra government. Whether it will be 25 or 50 percent of the stadium capacity will be decided by the government instruction,” the IPL chairman told Cricbuzz.
The season will have a total of 12-day encounters which will begin at 3:30 PM IST
Chennai Super Kings recently started their pre-season camp at Surat ahead of the IPL 2022. They become the first team to start their preparations. The camp is led by MS Dhoni.
The franchises are not happy with the BCCI as the Indian players won’t be joining their respective franchises soon enough. The players are forced to attend the 10-day pre IPL season fitness camp. Which is held at National Cricket Academy. , Bangalore. Players will be eligible to join the franchises on 15 march.
The matter has been taken to the IPL chairman Brijesh Patel and CEO Hemang Amin. As the Franchises want Indian players to join the respective teams as soon as possible, as they want players to prepare along with the team ahead of the 15th season.
Franchises are worried about the player’s COVID protection and also will not be able to fulfill sponsorship commitments that involve the players. The ball is in BCCI’s court now and franchises are awaiting the Chairman’s response.
