IPL 2024: The player’s auction ahead of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League transpired on December 19, Tuesday. The renowned Coca-Cola arena in Dubai conducted the bidding event which ended in a genuine blockbuster. Spanning for a day, the ten participating franchises shelled out INR 230 crore combined to acquire a total of 72 players during the mini-auction.
Delhi Capitals, the marquee IPL franchise, had announced the return of Rishabh Pant as their captain before the IPL 2024 auction. The Delhi team will head into the season retaining Ricky Ponting as their head coach and with some exciting players. The likes of Jhye Richardson, Shai Hope, and Harry Brook remained the all-famous campaigners bought by DC in the Dubai auction.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand wicketkeeper Sumit Kumar has expressed his disappointment after missing out on an IPL deal following an astounding episode. Boasting a base price of INR 20 lakh, Sumit Kumar was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 1 crore in the mini-auction. Kumar and his family were over the moon after bagging the massive sum in the auction, however, their happiness was shortlived.
It was later confirmed that the Sumit Kumar that Delhi Capitals bought in the Dubai event was a different cricketer altogether. Delhi acquired Sumit from Haryana which triggered great sorrow in the Jharkhand cricketer’s family. During his recent media interaction, the 28-year-old stated that the television coverage showed his picture during the auction, confirming a huge blunder from the broadcaster’s end.

“How is this possible? I agree that the names can be the same but what about the photo that was flashed on the television screen? They put my photo on their Instagram handle as well. They searched for me. They tagged me as well. When I got the notification, I was 100 percent confident. But when they deleted it after a couple of hours, I was confused and shocked, My photo was there, my name was there”
