The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings took on Delhi Capitals in a highly anticipated encounter on May 8. The all-important game took place at the D.Y. Patil stadium, Navi Mumbai. It was the second one, of the double-headers day.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant forced the Chennai-based team to bat first after calling it right at the toss. Pant’s call to opt for bowling first backfired as CSK put up a huge total of 209 on the board. The pitch was easy to bat on during the initial phase of the match, later the experts confirmed that the pitch helped spinners.
Devon Conway managed to get some limelight with an impressive knock of 87 off just 47 deliveries. It was the third consecutive game, where the New Zealander contributed significantly for Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni marked his presence with a crucial cameo at the end.
Delhi Capitals bundled out the total of 117 before the end of the 18th over. Chennai achieved a huge increase in its net run rate. The victory certainly boosted Chennai’s chance to make it to the playoffs, However, Luck has to be on their side. Devon Conway was named the player of the match.
David Warner loses cool at the umpire
What caught everyone’s eyes was David Warner’s dismissal and his reaction after getting out. The Australian lost his wicket while trying to attempt a switch hit. Theekshana, The mystery spinner of CSK trapped him in front of stumps.
Warner was given out LBW by the umpire. The left-hander straight away went upstairs, he looked confident of being not out. The ball tracking suggested the ball was hitting the stumps (umpire’s call). He gave umpire Nitin Menon an angry stare before walking back to the dugout
The rude gesture by David Warner did not impress the social media users. The fans suggest the Australians respect the umpires and the rules of the game. However, the fact of the matter is that the decision was a tight one.
