The Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Kolkata Knight Riders in their second contest of the game. The match was a night game and was being played at the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.
After winning the toss, The RCB captain Faf Du Plessis elected to bowl as the conditions offered much assistance to the batters in the latter part of the game. All the captains who won the toss have tilted towards opting to bowl.
The RCB restricted KKR on a low score of 128 with the brilliant bowling display by Wanindu Hasaranga and co. It looked like a below-par effort by Kolkata’s batsmen.
Kolkata showed a great fighting spirit in the second innings and at one point they were dominating too. However, RCB had the last laugh as the innings by Dinesh Karthik, Shahbaz Ahmed and David Willey sealed the game for the hosts. Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers for KKR as he took crucial 3 wickets and gave just 20 runs in the 4 overs quota.
The run-out opportunity :
The match went down to the wire, The Bangalore-based team needed 16 runs off the last 11 balls. Dinesh Karthik tried to cover the covers region with an elevated shot, Unfortunately, it was a mishit. The ball went to the backward point fielder, Umesh Yadav.
Karthik did not run, while the non-striker Harshal Patel almost completed the run. It was a comical visual as both the batsmen were at one crease. The fielder Umesh Yadav threw the ball at the wrong end.
Before the keeper could come and collect the ball, The ball passed the stumps and Dinesh Karthik completed the run. There was a huge sigh of relief on the right-hander’s face.
The captain and Umesh Yadav looked tense with a smirk on their face as the opportunity to send the finisher back to the dressing room were lost.
