BCCI has officially announced India’s squad for both T20I and Test series against Sri Lanka. The Chetan Sharma-led selection committee has taken some brave calls for India vs Sri Lanka test series.
India vs Sri Lanka test series : Rahane, Pujara, Ishant & Saha dropped from the Indian squad
Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha and Ishant Sharma have been dropped from the test squad. It was expected considering their age and performance. Chetan Sharma, the chief selector confirmed that he had chatted with them, and it is communicated to them that they should play in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
Rohit Sharma has been officially named as India’s new test captain making him the all-format Indian captain at the moment.
“Bumrah, KL Rahul, Pant to be groomed as future captains under Rohit Sharma.” Chetan Sharma confirms.
Jasprit Bumrah, The primary Indian pacer has been named as India’s vice-captain in both the series.
BCCI has given Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant a 10-day bio-bubble break. Both of them won’t be available for the third T20I against West Indies and the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The two marquee batsmen will make a comeback in the test series against Sri Lanka. While, the all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been rested from the complete tour.
Sanju Samson has been included in the T20 squad as Rishabh Pant won’t be available for the series.
Kuldeep Yadav has been included in both the squads marking his return in red-ball cricket.
Injury status of the players :
KL Rahul and Washington Sundar are ruled out of both the series due to injuries.
Ravi Ashwin is included in the test squad but is subject to fitness.
Axar Patel is continuing his rehab at the National Cricket Academy and likely to be fit for the second Test.
