Rovman Powell, the right-hand West Indies power hitter played crucial innings in the context of the game. Powell was dropped on 38 by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The power hitter tried to slog one over the long-on fielder but the ball didn’t get the distance, the ball went up and straight into bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s hands. Before the pacer could close his fingers, the ball bounced from his hands. As a result, the Indian captain looked very disappointed and kicked the ball in anger.
Here’s what India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant said about the incident
“I think inside the circle, everyone was looking for that catch (Powell) to be taken and we thought it was Bhuvi’s catch but it happens and it’s part and parcel of the game.”
“He (Powell) was hitting bullets. At the back of my mind, I was happy as well as Powell will be playing for Delhi Capitals (smiles).”
Here’s what India’s captain Rohit Sharma said after the match
“Always a fear when you are playing against these guys. We knew it would be a little tough. We were a bit sloppy on the field. I’m a little disappointed with that. The game would have been different had we taken those catches.”
Kieron Pollard, The visitors’ captain said
“He (Powell) was phenomenal today. His partnership with Pooran almost got us over the line. We did well to take it as deep as we can.”
Powell’s wicket was crucial as he was playing on 38 and is known for his hitting ability. The right-hand batsman went on to score 68 runs and remained unbeaten. Unfortunately, The visitors were unable to achieve the target of 187. Kieron Pollard-led West India fell short by just 8 runs and lost the T20I series as well.
The visitors so far have failed to achieve even a single win on the tour. The third T20I will take place at the same venue, Tomorrow (Sunday).
