T20 World Cup 2022: After registering two consecutive triumphs in the ongoing T20 World Cup, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team finally suffered a defeat against a star-studded team of South Africa. It was a poor show from the Men In Blue in all three departments including fielding. India slipped down to the second position in the points tally after the defeat.
India’s batting performance in the high-octane South Africa game at the iconic Perth Stadium is now under massive scrutiny. All the batters except Suryakumar Yadav failed to negotiate challenging surface conditions. Yadav played an Impactful knock of 68 off 40 deliveries, other than that it was pretty much a flop show for the marquee Asian side.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s poor day on the field:
Consistent fielding errors by the likes of senior Indian team members including skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli cost India Aiden Markram’s crucial wicket on as many as three occasions. Fielding inside the 30-yard circle, Sharma missed two comprehensive run-out chances. In contrast, Kohli missed out on an easy catching opportunity at the mid-on region on the exact batsman, namely Markram.
The mammoth partnership between Aiden Markram and David Miller was possibly the match-defining one. Markram and Miller contributed with 52 and 59* runs respectively following a terrible batting collapse of South Africa upfront. The situation of the match could have been drastically different, provided the Indian veterans had grabbed the opportunities on the field. The Mumbaikar admitted the same during the post-match show.
“That was a match-winning partnership from Markram and Miller. We were a little poor in the field, we gave so many chances and we weren’t clinical. We were just not good enough. We couldn’t hold our chances, we missed a few run-outs. We need to keep our heads high and take learning from this game.” said Rohit Sharma following a disappointing day at the office.
