The second-string Indian team triumphed in the three-match one-day international series against full-strength South Africa. It was an outstanding comeback by the home side in order to clinch a comprehensive series win after losing the first match of the series.
The fact that India managed to beat the top-class Proteas side in absence of their multiple senior players makes this even more special. Several young Indian players displayed some severe character, with premier pacer Mohammad Siraj being named ‘Player of the Series. The players and fans will undoubtedly remember this win for a long time.
“I am proud of the boys, the way they played in the series. The way they carried the responsibility and showed maturity. We dropped a few catches, but we never really put pressure on ourselves. The boys showed great character on such tough batting pitches.” said Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the post-match presentation.
