The second-string Indian team is featuring in a three-match one-day international series against Temba Bavuma-led South Africa. The full-fledged Proteas team is leading the away series by one-nill, after coming out victorious in the series opener at Lucknow a couple of days back.
It is a do-or-die situation for the Men In Blue now as they have no choice but to clinch triumphs in both the remaining games of the series. As things stand, South Africa looks hot favorite to achieve a comprehensive series win, however, it will be nothing but unwise to rule out the hosts completely.
Deepak Chahar ruled out of the series:
What comes as a significant development from the Indian camp is that their premier pacer namely Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against South Africa due to back stiffness. BCCI officially confirmed the same in its recent media release.
BCCI further confirmed that Deepak Chahar will now head to the National Cricket Academy located in Bengaluru. The right-arm pacer was all set to travel with the national side for the T20 World Cup as a standby player but the unfortunate injury has certainly put a lot of questions on his future availability.
“The Selection Committee named Washington Sundar as replacement for Deepak Chahar for the remainder of the ODI series against South Africa. Mr. Chahar had a stiffness in his back after the final T20I against South Africa,” wrote BCCI secretary Jay Shah in the media release.
Washington Sundar to replace Deepak Chahar:
Meanwhile, young all-rounder, Washington Sundar has been named as the replacement for Chahar for the proceeding series. After missing out on plenty of Cricketing action, Sundar last played for the national side in the ODI series against Zimbabwe back in September.
Sundar also featured the recently-concluded Royal London ODI championship, which is a prominent domestic tournament in England. Despite being added to the squad, Sundar is unlikely to get a gig in this series as India will look to back the spin combination of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi.
