IND vs NZ: The final encounter of the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is currently occurring in Indore (January 24). The fixture is a dead rubber as hosts India have already bagged the series win following consecutive victories in the first two games of the series. Losing the toss, and batting first, India appears in a dominating position so far in the ongoing encounter as well. India is nearing the 300-run mark with 10 overs and 5 wickets in hand.
Captain Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Shubman Gill starred for the Indian team with quickfire centuries. The opening batters contributed with knocks of 101 and 112 respectively in the batting-friendly conditions of Holkar Stadium. On the other hand, young pacer Jacob Duffy has been the pick of the bowlers for the Blackcaps with two dismissals to his name. It will certainly be interesting to see how the remainder of the game pans out.
Poor call while running costs Ishan Kishan his wicket!
Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan’s dismissal in the proceeding fixture remained a big talking point on social media. Kishan suffered a run-out after an embarrassing mix-up with non-striker Virat Kohli. The Southpaw made an early call after playing a defensive shot in the covers region but later realized it was a wrong call and there was no possible run. Unfortunately, the realization occurred too late as Kishan visibly sacrificed his wicket and had a long way back to the dressing room.
“Once you call ‘yes’ early while taking close runs, it’s almost impossible to go back,” said commentator Irfan Pathan while describing the episode
Ishan Kishan, who was making his comeback in India’s ODI lineup after the Bangladesh series, was seemingly frustrated while heading back to the dugout. The Southpaw was given a role in the middle order in the ongoing ODI series but failed to make an impact. Replacing injured Shreyas Iyer, His scores in the three-match series were 5, 8*, and 17 respectively. Kishan would now brace himself to come up well in the upcoming T20I series, starting after a couple of days.
