T20 World Cup 2022: After suffering an embarrassing defeat in the South Africa encounter, The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team’s preparations are going on in full swing. India will be squaring off against Shakib Al Hasan’s Bangladesh on Wednesday at the iconic Adelaide Oval. It will be a must-win game for both teams as the losing team will be virtually out of the race for the semi-finals.
Indian players had an optional practice session today in the Indoor nets of Adelaide Oval, while training outdoors was not possible due to persistent downfall at the venue. The practice session was attended by most of the Indian players except the fast bowlers, including skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and struggling KL Rahul. Adapting to the conditions of Adelaide Oval remained the goal of the session.
KL Rahul receives advice from Virat Kohli during practice:
Virat Kohli was seen having a long conversation with KL Rahul during the Indoor training. The chat was visibly about Rahul’s dismissal in the South Africa encounter. He was caught in the slips while punching an off-stump-lined delivery bowled by Lungi Ngidi. Kohli also addressed some technical aspects of Rahul’s batting to batting coach Vikram Rathaur.
KL Rahul is going through a lean patch in the last few months. He has failed to contribute to the national side since he made a comeback after a long injury break. Rahul is India’s vice-captain and his performance is crucial for the team’s T20 World Cup campaign. As things stand, the pressure of scoring runs is building up heavily on the opening batter.
“In these conditions, we can afford KL Rahul a little bit of time. As I said, we completely back him, we have no concerns. We know that when he gets going and I have seen that Australia a couple of weeks back against a top-quality attack, I know the impact he can make. I and Rohit have no doubt in our minds about who will open the batting,” said India coach Rahul Dravid in a press conference.
