The recently-concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand kicked off team India’s preparations ahead of the World Cup 2023. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian side achieved remarkable clean sweeps in both series, consisting of three fixtures each following a dominant Cricketing display. The series certainly puts India in a comfortable position heading into the ICC event later this year.
The all-important ICC World Cup 2023 will officially occur in the October-November window, with India being the host nation. It has been well over a decade since India’s World Cup 2011 triumph and the team is desperate for an ICC title. India recently suffered a semi-final exit in the T20 World Cup 2022, which remained a big criticism topic.
Mohammad Siraj is a 300-wicket Test bowler: Dinesh Karthik
Meanwhile, Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has backed Mohammad Siraj to feature in India’s lineup in the World Cup 2023. During a recent Cricbuzz show, Karthik confessed that Siraj is an extremely skilful bowler, rating him highly in one-day Cricket. The Tamil Nadu player further believes that the fast bowler deserves a spot in the national side, looking at his outings in the last few months.
“I’m very sure that he would be part of the 2023 World Cup team. He deserves that spot, he has done really well. The 2022 IPL taught him a lot of things about handling failures, and that has kept him in good stead. I see him as one of those, let’s just say he doesn’t get injuries, at least a 300-wicket Test bowler,” said Dinesh Karthik
“He definitely has the aptitude for that, he has the skill set for that. It’s only a matter of whether he can stay fit for that long. He has shown so far that he’s very reliable. His strongest in Test cricket, one-dayers will come after that. T20s is where he is still learning,” Karthik further added speaking to Cricbuzz
Mohammad Siraj has emerged as India’s fast-bowling spearhead in injured Jasprit Bumrah’s absence in the last few months. Siraj’s performance in ODI Cricket has been exceptional since the last year. He recently became the number 1 ranked bowler in the ICC ODI rankings. As things stand, the 28-year-old appears to be a certainty in India’s ODI lineup.
