Kane Williamson-led team New Zealand made headlines following a historic Test match win against England at Wellington earlier today (Tuesday). New Zealand achieved a one-run victory in the game, which is a pretty rare sight in the longest format of the game. It was only the second time that a team won a match by just one run in the 146-year history of Test Cricket.
“That game is what Test cricket is about, it was just incredible. The emotions we were going through and obviously the Kiwi boys out there as well. Was incredible to be involved in such a Test match. Everyone’s got their money’s worth. Disappointing to end with a loss here. We had a great summer last year. We have a few months off before the Ashes. We will look to do what we can.” said Ben Stokes in the post-match presentation
The triumph occurred on the last day of the match after England enforced the follow-on on the third day, which further makes the victory truly historical. The high-octane game at the Basiv Reserve of Wellington was the second fixture of the two-match test series between heavyweights. Ben Stokes’ England registered a dominating win in the series opener, however, the Blackcaps were clinical to win the second encounter and level the home series.
A fangirl approaches Ben Stokes with a comical poster
Meanwhile, a visual of a female fan approaching Ben Stokes with a placard is doing rounds on social media. A female fan, sitting in the crowd along with her partner, displayed a placard during a live broadcast that read “Ben, my boyfriend’s here to see the cricket. I’m here to see you”. England captain Stokes spotted the poster and responded with an awkward laugh as the game was in a tense situation.

Ben Stokes has had a dream run after being appointed as England’s captain in red-ball Cricket. There has been a paradigm shift in England’s approach to Test Cricket followed by positive results. This was only the second defeat that Stokes faced as England’s test captain in his right-month tenure. The 31-year-old will certainly be gutted following the loss at Wellington, however, would be very proud of the way he has led the team.
