IPL 2023: After one and a half month’s sublime cricketing action, the caravan in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League is gradually heading into its business end. As few as 7 fixtures are remaining to be played in the league stage of IPL 2023 before the start of the all-important playoffs. As things stand, Gujarat Titans are the only team to achieve formal qualifications while the other three playoff spots are still up for grabs.
Identical to most of the IPL seasons, multiple young players have proved their mettle and taken the cricketing world by storm this season too. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, and Suyash Sharma currently lead the emerging players’ chart in the IPL 2023. At least a couple of names from the exact elite list might be seen featuring in the second-string Indian lineup for the upcoming T20I series against Windies.
Harbhajan Singh bats for Jaiswal and Rinku
Meanwhile, veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh has backed Kolkata Knight Riders’ Rinku Singh and Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal to make it into India’s squad. The cricketer-turned-expert wants Indian management to consider some new names in the shortest format of the game with World Cup 2024 heading closer. Harbhajan believes that Jaiswal and Singh are ready to play international cricket and should be rushed into the setup.
“I certainly believe that when somebody is playing well or doing well, they should be part of the system. I am not saying that include them in the Playing XI straightway but bring them into the fold,” said Harbhajan Singh during an interaction with Hindustan Times
“I feel this is probably the right time for Rinku (Singh) and Yashasvi (Jaiswal) to be in the closer group of players. For talents like Yashasvi and Rinku, the perception might be it’s too early but truth be told, it’s not. Give them a chance right now otherwise it might be late,” the Punjab cricketer further added
Playing at the top for Rajasthan Royals, Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently the third leading run-scorer in the ongoing IPL season with a whopping 575 runs to his name. Finisher Rinku Singh, on the other hand, played some match-winning cameos out of nowhere for Kolkata Knight Riders.
