What was the logic in having MS Dhoni, Rishabh [Pant], and Dinesh [Karthik] altogether? – Ravi Shastri
Recently Ravi Shastri’s tenure as Team India’s Head Coach ended post the T20 World Cup 2021. The former Indian All-rounder was appointed as head coach in July 2017.

Under his coaching team, India won many bilateral series. Both at home and away but was not able to any ICC trophy. Although Team India was the semifinalist of ICC WC 2019. The Finalist of the ICC World Test Championship and was knockout out of the group stage of the T20 WC 2021.

In 2019, it was certain that Ambati Rayudu will be the Number.4 batter. But then the team got selected it was known that Rayudu missed out on the squad.
While talking about Selection of the Team for the ICC events, Ravi Shastri said that
“I had no say in that (team selection). But I wasn’t okay with three wicketkeepers being picked for the World Cup. Either Ambati or Shreyas could’ve come in. What was the logic in having MS Dhoni, Rishabh [Pant], and Dinesh [Karthik] altogether?” said Shastri in a conversation with The Times of India.

“But I never interfered with the selectors’ work, except when I was asked for feedback or as part of a general discussion,” he added
In place of Rayudu, the team management went with Vijay Shankar. And the composition of the team was such that it had three wicket-keeping options in form of MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, and Rishabh Pant.
Ravi Shastri wasn’t amused with India’s 15-man squad having three wicketkeepers in MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant, and Dinesh Karthik. He also said either Rayudu or Shreyas Iyer should have been in the squad.
Team India was brilliant in the group stage of the ICC Worldcup 2019 as they won 7 out of 9 games. And were the table topper. But they lose against New Zealand in the semifinal by 18 runs. Where the batters struggled as the score at one time was 24-4 which later eventually ended the dream for India to win the World Cup 2019.
Meanwhile, Team India is now, having a New Coaching staff and Rahul Dravid has replaced Ravi Shastri as the Head Coach.
