The Caribbean Premier League has entered the last stage of the season. Where we saw 4 teams battle out to make their ways in the Grand Final of CPL.
In the 1st Semi-Final, the defending Champions Trinbago Knight Riders faceoff against Saint Lucia Kings in CPL.
Kings missed their key player and Captain Faf Du Plessis, as he was not available due to a groin injury. Andre Fletcher was the captain. Fletcher won the toss and elected to bat first but the things didn’t go well as planned as the dangerous Cornwall depart without scoring a run. Fletcher on the another end struggled a lot and got out scoring 4 off 14 balls.
But the middle order took the responsibility to keep the team alive in the do-or-die encounter. Mark Deyal started the counter-attack by scoring quick runs from the powerplay and using the powerplay at his best. He was supported by in-form Roston Chase.
Ali Khan and Ravi Rampaul looked clueless against the counter-attack. In this high scoring encounter, Sunil Narine bowled very economically as he just gave 12 runs in his 4 overs also took the wicket of Mark Deyal.
Even Deyal and Chase couldn’t dictate terms against him. Kings lost both their set batsmen in two successive overs and Knights made a comeback but Weise (21-ball 34) and David (17-ball 38) had some another plans as the duo scored 75 runs in 34 deliveries which took Saint Lucia past 200.
In return, Knights had a similar start as they lost Simmons in the first over. Narine and Munro did a lot of damage at the top of the order as they were quick of the blocks.
They also used the powerplay very well by scoring 66 runs in it and just losing 1 wicket in it. But the main problem for knight started after this was non of the batsmen were able to convert their quick 20-30 runs in big innings. Pollard, Bravo try their best but eventually lost the match by 21 runs.
David Wiese was awarded Player of the Match for his all-rounder performance as he picked 5 wickets and even scored quick 34 runs.
The 2nd semi-final was between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Guyana Amazon Warriors. Both the teams had a similar season where the won 6 out of 10 matches.
St. Kitts won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Warriors put up a score of 178 in 20 overs. They started off well but lost the momentum in the middle order and then finished well credit goes to Hetmyer, who took the responsibility and scored a quickfire 45 off 20 deliveries.
At half way stage the Warriors were looking 20 runs short on the batting wicket. Naseem shah bowled with fire and the spinners Jaggesar and Fawad bowled economically well in the middle order.
The chased looked very easy when Gayle and Lewis started to fire. Both looked to set in their eyes in first few overs and then they explode by scoring 41 runs in two overs.
Gayle didn’t bat deep, but his partner did by scoring 77 runs off 39 balls which includes 8 massive sixes which took his side over the Rajasthan Royals fan would be very happy by seeing Lewis red hot form.
