Chris Gayle Names The Batter Who Can Break His 175-run IPL Record

IPL 2023: The approaching season of the Indian Premier League is now less than two weeks away from its formal beginning. The much-anticipated IPL 2023 is set to kick off on March 31 with an encounter between defending champions Gujarat Titans and four-time champions Chennai Super Kings. The enthralling edition of the India-based league will be played in the march-may window with the mega finale scheduled on May 28. 

Similar to the last season, as many as ten teams will be seen participating in the league stage, which comprises a whopping 70 fixtures followed by the playoffs leg. The top four teams will officially square off against each other in the high-pressure four knockout encounters. Meanwhile, former West Indies batter Chris Gayle has revealed the name of the batter who can go past his 175-run record in the Indian Premier League. Gayle stated that Indian opener KL Rahul can be the batter who breaks his elite record of 175 runs in an IPL inning. The veteran Caribbean opening batter said that Rahul underrates his own skills with the bat but is capable to play marathon knocks in the shortest format of the game. 

“For one, I think KL Rahul! On his day, he can do it. I don’t think he believes in his ability to get that big score but listen to me, we all have seen KL Rahul on the go and if he decided to bat like that sometimes, if not most times which I’d love to see, he definitely can get that.” said Chris Gayle

“Because when he gets from 15th to the 20th over, he is very dangerous down there at the death as well, batting-wise. If he gets a good start and gets a big hundred he can definitely get past 175,” Gayle further added via a Jio Cinema show ‘Legend speak’

Moreover, Chris Gayle’s record of the highest individual score in an IPL inning appears extremely challenging to achieve. Opening the batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gayle played an unbelievable 175-run knockoff just 66 deliveries against Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013. He reached the three-figure mark in just 30 deliveries in the exact record-breaking innings.
