On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Team India’s 15-member squad including three reserve players ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
The mega event is scheduled to be played in UAE and Oman during the October-November window. Having a look at the squad, the Tamil Nadu player Ravichandran Ashwin has been included in the squad. Interestingly, they have picked Ishan Kishan and Varun Chakravarthy who showcased their performance in the last few games.
However, the committee picked Rahul Chahar over Yuzvendra Chahal for the leggie role. A lot of fans have questioned the committee for picking Rahul Chahar over Yuzvendra Chahal for the mega event.
Chief Selector Chetan Sharma opens up the reason for dropping Yuzvendra Chahal:
The right-arm leggie has featured in 49 T20I games and scalped 63 wickets with the best bowling figure of 6 for 25. But in the last few games, Chahal has failed to deliver his best with the ball and been dropped from the Indian side in the recently concluded Sri Lanka series as well.
Rahul Chahar has grabbed the opportunity with both hands during the Sri Lanka series and showed his worth with the ball. Besides, the Chief Selector of the Indian cricket team, Chetan Sharma has opened up the reason for dropping Chahal in a virtual press conference as he said “Spinners who bowl quick was our priority. Hence, we went with Rahul Chahar”. More interestingly, they appointed the former skipper Ms. Dhoni as the mentor of the T20 World Cup squad.

The Virat-led Indian team has to face Pakistan in their first encounter on 24th October at the Dubai International Stadium.
